Las manifestaciones artísticas en México Pre-colonial y Colonial, y sus supervivencias actuales es un libro que está compuesto por un total de 11 estudios preparados en colaboración entre la Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias Sociales de la Universidad de Bielsko-Biała y el Instituto Polaco de Investigación del Arte Mundial. El presente tomo gira en torno al tema de los aspectos diversos de la cultura, el arte y la religión en México, los cuales de manera constante se influyen mutuamente para producir nuevas formas de mestizaje cultural. El objetivo principal de este libro no es presentar una imagen completa de los cambios que se han producido en la región del moderno Estado mexicano, sino más bien proporcionar algunos ejemplos concretos de los fenómenos multiculturales que revelan los orígenes de la vivacidad y el colorido excepcional de la sociedad mexicana contemporánea. Aunque los estudios presentados se enfoquen en áreas temáticas al parecer completamente diferentes, sin embargo nos permiten exponer la continuidad de ciertos valores estéticos y culturales, que a pesar de unas ligeras modificaciones a las que han sido sometidos para encuadrar en los nuevos contextos socio-históricos, siguen impermutables en su esencia desde los tiempos del primer contacto entre los europeos e indígenas americanos. El material está dividido de acuerdo con las etapas más importantes en la historia de México, a saber: la época precolonial, los tiempos coloniales y la etapa del Estado independiente. La diversidad de las manifestaciones artísticas presentadas en este libro refleja los rasgos principales de la cultura mexicana moderna, que no es un fenómeno estable e immutable. Todo lo contrario, es un mosaico del pasado y el presente, de lo europeo y lo indígena, un mosaico muy dinámico, y siempre abierto a recibir nuevas influencias.

BETWEEN THE ART AND THE RITUAL

The artistic manifestations of the Precolonial and Colonial Mexico, and their preservation in the present times consists of 11 studies prepared in collaboration between the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Bielsko-Biała and the Polish Institute of World Art Studies. The main subject of this collection are the diverse aspects of the Mexican art, culture and religion, that constantly influence each other producing new, original and surprising fusions. The purpose of this book is not to present a complete image of the complex changes that have taken place in the area of the modern Mexico, but rather to give some specific examples of the cross-cultural phenomena that reveal the origins of the vivid and colourful character of the contemporary Mexican society. Although the presented studies seemingly focus around completely different subjects, they help to uncover the continuity of some aesthetic and cultural values, that sometimes may have been submitted to soft modifications in order to fit new socio-historical context, but in their essence have stayed the same for all over the time since the first contact between the Spaniards and the indigenous tribes of America. The material has been divided into three chapters that correspond to the three most important periods in the history of Mexico, that is: the Precolonial era, the ages of colonial dependence from Spain and the years of modern and independent state. The diversity of artistic manifestations presented here reflects the true nature of the modern Mexican culture, which is not a stable phenomenon, but on the contrary, it is a mosaic of past and present, European and indigenous values, that still shows great dynamics and openness to new trends.
